SECP Pushes Digital Transformation in Pakistan’s Insurance Sector

September 26, 2026

Pakistan’s insurance industry is entering a more technology-focused phase. On 15 September 2026, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan highlighted digital transformation of the insurance sector through its Talk Series, bringing industry leaders into a discussion on digital insurance, consumer protection and technology-driven growth.

Why insurance digitalisation matters

Insurance has traditionally depended on physical sales networks, paperwork and manual servicing. Digital channels can change that model by enabling customers to discover products, submit information, receive documents and interact with insurers remotely.

For insurers, technology can also improve workflow efficiency, data analysis and service monitoring. The real value, however, depends on whether digital processes make products easier to understand and claims easier to navigate rather than simply moving paperwork online.

Consumer protection remains central

Financial services become more scalable through technology, but scale also raises questions about disclosures, privacy, cyber risk and complaint handling. Customers need to understand what a policy covers, what it excludes and what documentation may be required when a claim arises.

Potential for wider coverage

Digital distribution may reduce the cost of reaching customers outside traditional sales networks. This can be particularly relevant for smaller-ticket protection products and customers who prefer mobile-first financial services.

Partnerships between insurers, banks, fintech companies and digital platforms could also create new distribution models. Such partnerships require clear accountability and appropriate regulatory safeguards.

What to watch

Key indicators will include adoption of digital policies, customer retention, complaint trends, claim turnaround and the quality of digital disclosures. Technology should ultimately be assessed by outcomes for customers, not only by the number of digital channels launched.
