At the 2024 WSF World Team Squash Championship, Pakistan showed incredible tenacity, but in a thrilling playoff match in Hong Kong, China, they fell by a slim margin to Germany, 2-1.
Muhammad Asim Khan of Pakistan and Raphael Kandra of Germany engaged in an exciting match to start the World Team Squash Championship playoffs. The five-game marathon lasted 58 minutes, and both players battled valiantly. With scores of 11-9, 9-11, 9-11, 11-4, and 11-9, Kandra won the match 3-2.
Thanks to a brilliant performance from Nasir Iqbal, Pakistan recovered in the second game. With scores of 11-8, 11-2, and 11-6 in just 27 minutes, Nasir easily overcame Yannik Omlor of Germany, dominating every rally and winning the match 3-0.
In the final match, Pakistan’s Noor Zaman faced off against German squash legend Simon Rösner. Rösner’s extensive expertise overcame Noor’s strong start, which saw them win the first game 11–8. He won the next three games 11-7, 11-5, and 11-4, securing Germany’s victory and ending the match in 38 minutes.
Following the defeat, Pakistan’s attention will turn to Thursday at 4:30 PM PST, when they meet Canada in the SC6 playoffs. The group is still focused on winning the World Team Squash Championship.
